First Choice Health Insurance for Addiction Rehab

First Choice Health is in-network with Evergreen at Northpoint to cover drug and alcohol addiction recovery services. FCH members have access to free or low-cost addiction treatment services.

Addiction treatment can be expensive. It’s so costly, in fact, that many addicts avoid detox and rehab because they’re deterred by the cost. According to the National Council for Behavioral Health, only 11% of addicts seek the treatment they need.

This is quite a sad statistic, particularly when you consider that 70,000 people died of an overdose in 2017. And, this data doesn’t include those who suffered non-fatal overdoses, alcohol poisoning, or life-changing health side effects.

It’s important for addicts to reach out for help when they need it. Luckily, insurance providers like First Choice Health work with treatment centers to give addicts access to affordable treatment.

FCH is one of the many insurance plans accepted at the Evergreen at Northpoint. Individuals who are enrolled in one of this company’s plans have access to low or zero-cost services at our facility.

Which Services Does First Choice Health Cover?

One of the reasons why First Choice is a popular insurance company is that they cover a wide range of different services. While they cover the cost of traditional healthcare services like hospital visits and medication, they also cater specifically to drug addicts and alcoholics.

First Choice Health Insurance for Rehab

Some of the addictions they cover treatment for include:

In other words, FCH covers treatment for nearly every substance abuse condition known to man. If a certain drug causes problems in a person’s life, the organization dedicates itself to helping that person pay for treatment.

As long as the patient receives a referral from their position, First Choice is happy to cover the bill.

In some cases, members may receive 80% or 90% coverage. In these situations, the patient is responsible for the remains 10% or 20% of the bill. But, given the high cost of most treatment programs, these plans are still financially beneficial for recovering addicts.

First Choice Health doesn’t just cover treatment for addiction. They also cover dual diagnosis treatment. This is very important for those who suffer from co-occurring disorders.

When an addict struggles with mental health problems in addition to addiction disorder, they require special treatment. They may need a specific type of therapy or special medications. Oftentimes, these treatments are expensive.

By covering treatment for co-occurring disorders, providers like FCH help addicts to get help for their mental illness and their addiction problems.

Some of the most common mental illnesses experienced by addicts include:

If an addict is given a dual diagnosis, it’s crucial for them to reach out for help. Untreated mental illness has a way of perpetuating addiction disorders. This works the opposite way, as well. So, it’s important for addicts to seek out treatment.

Fortunately, FCH works with facilities like Evergreen at Northpoint to get addicts the support they need.

Paying for Addiction Treatment: The Benefits of Choosing an In-Network Healthcare Provider

First Choice Health members can utilize their insurance benefits to pay for addiction treatment services at the Evergreen at Northpoint. In the healthcare industry, this is known as an “in-network” relationship.

Every treatment facility has a network of insurance plans that they accept. If an addict subscribes to an in-network plan, the individual is able to get treatment for free. And, even if their plan doesn’t cover 100% of treatment, they are still able to receive services at a reduced rate.

Obviously, this is hugely beneficial for recovering addicts. Expenses are one of the main reasons why addicts avoid professional treatment.

Sometimes, addicts aren’t able to receive treatment at a particular facility because their insurance plan is not in that facility’s network. This also applies to addicts who don’t have any insurance at all. While these individuals can still attend detox and rehab, they may have to pay more than those who carry in-network insurance.

Luckily, recovering addicts can receive professional treatment at Evergreen with FCH and many other healthcare providers.

How First Choice Health Insurance Works

In many ways, First Choice operates just like any other insurance company. Subscribers enroll in a plan and elect benefits. They pay a monthly fee for coverage. This fee is deducted from each paycheck. If the situation arises in which they need healthcare, the insurance company covers all or part of the bill.

Because most subscribers get their First Choice coverage through their employers, the company also offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This program helps employers to keep their employees healthy by providing a range of services including therapy, childcare, health risk assessments, and conflict resolution.

So, there are two ways that a First Choice member can seek treatment for their addiction issues.

  1. Get a referral from a primary care physician.
  2. Get a referral from a First Choice consultant.

In both cases, the referral process usually looks something like this:

If an addict wants to attend detox or rehab, they must get an official diagnosis. A doctor must decide that the individual has a certified addiction disorder. So, the addict needs to visit a doctor or licensed medical professional.

When the doctor determines that the addict’s disorder is detrimental to their wellbeing, they prescribe a treatment. This treatment may include detox, rehab, Vivitrol servicesnaloxone or naltrexone, and other services. They’ll write up a prescription and send it to the insurance company.

After the addict is given a diagnosis and prescription, they’re free to start looking for a treatment center. The insurance provider will give them a list of in-network facilities to choose from. These are the facilities where the addict is able to get treatment for free or at a reduced rate.

If the addict wants to attend an out-of-network facility, they’re free to do so. However, they may have to pay full price for treatment.

Sometimes, the referring doctor may recommend a specific facility. In this case, it’s recommended to take the doctor’s advice. They typically recommend facilities when a certain one specializes in treating an addict’s specific conditions.

Once the addict chooses a treatment facility, they enroll in the program. The addict (and sometimes their families) choose a start date. They report to the facility on the decided day for treatment. In most cases, addicts should begin treatment as soon as possible. Sometimes, they may sign up for detox and begin treatment on the same day.

How Much Does First Choice Health Cost?

First Choice offers several different health plans. Each one costs a different amount of money and covers different services. Their current plans range from $300 to $1,000 per person or $900 to $3,000 per family. Each of these plans has a different out-of-pocket maximum and covers a different percentage of medical bills.

For example, those who elect the most expensive plan receive higher coverage. So, although they pay more in deductibles, they don’t have to pay as much for medical bills. First Choice will cover a higher percentage of the cost each time the member receives treatment.

The co-payment is the amount that the patient is responsible for paying out-of-pocket. The insurance company does not cover co-payments.

For example, all First Choice customers pay a $10 co-payment for generic prescription drugs. They pay this amount to the pharmacist no matter which plans they enroll in. For brand-name drugs, they pay between $20 and $40 for their co-payment.

When it comes to treatment services, the co-pay amount ranges. Depending on their plan, they’ll pay anywhere between 0% and 20%. If they enroll in a plan with a high deductible, they’ll pay a smaller co-pay amount. If they enroll in a low-deductible plan, on the other hand, they’ll pay a higher co-payment for treatment.

How Much Does Addiction Treatment Cost Without Insurance?

If you don’t have insurance, drug detox and rehab can get expensive. According to cost and quality data from, treatment services typically cost between $5,198 and $26,352.

This is one of the reasons why it’s so important for people to have health insurance. Particularly if someone has a history of substance abuse, they should have a plan to pay for healthcare if they need it.

Fortunately, there are plenty of low-cost options. Addicts can take advantage of state healthcare or private healthcare plans to get the treatment they need. There are also a number of free and low-cost rehab options that can help addicts get sober without costing too much money.

How to Choose the Best Rehab Program

Washington State is home to some of the best rehab programs in the country. This is good news for First Choice members, as most of the providers in their network are located in the northwestern US.

If you’re thinking about getting addiction treatment for yourself or someone else, it’s important to choose carefully. Here are a few things you should consider while shopping around:

There are many different types of rehabilitation programs. There are inpatient and outpatient programs. There are partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), too. Each of these works well for different people.

When choosing a program, you should consider your schedule. If you need to stay in school or attend work during rehab, you may want to consider an intensive outpatient program (IOP). If you require 24/7 supervision to avoid relapsing, an inpatient program might work better.

Every rehab program offers different services. While most of them treat drug addiction and alcoholism, some specialize in niche forms of treatment.

For example, some facilities offer specific types of therapy that others don’t. If a patient requires EMDR therapy, they should find a facility that offers it. In most cases, the patient’s doctor refers them to facilities that offer the services they need.

Some addicts benefit from rehabilitating in a low-population treatment center. This allows them to receive more attention from the staff. Some people, on the other hand, benefit from attending large group support sessions with a lot of other addicts.

When choosing a program, addicts should consider their needs and preferences. Do you want to spend your time in big group therapy meetings where you can meet a lot of other people in recovery? Or, would you rather spend your time in an intimate environment?
