Like most states in the US, Washington is currently experiencing a drug crisis. Residents die in record numbers every year.
According to data published in The Seattle Times, fentanyl deaths alone climbed more than 70% during 2018. This data does not account for the number of deaths caused by heroin, cocaine, meth, or other drugs. It doesn’t account for alcohol poisoning deaths, either.
And King County is at the center of the problem. Each year, hundreds of residents die from overdoses. While the numbers are still out in 2018, data shows more than 400 overdose deaths in 2017.
It’s unfortunate to see statistics like this. There are too many addiction resources around Bellevue. If addicts were able to connect with these resources before the OD’d we might see a decrease in deaths.
In this article, we’ll outline some of the resources available in the area. We focus specifically on resources in the Hidden Valley neighborhood of Bellevue.
Hopefully, this helps addicts find the help they need.

Drug detox is the process of getting all of the drugs out of one’s body. This is a crucial step in the recovery process.
When an addict gets used to drinking or using drugs frequently, they become dependent on it. Without it, their body may not function properly. That’s why some addicts are unable to do much without using first.
So, their body and brain go haywire when they try to stop using. Typically, they experience nausea, diarrhea, anxiety, and other symptoms. These are known as withdrawal symptoms.
Sometimes, withdrawal symptoms prevent addicts from getting clean. If someone tries to detox at home, for example, they might pick up the bottle or buy some drugs to make their symptoms go away.
Professional detox programs are designed to prevent this relapse. By checking into a detox center, addicts separate themselves from the temptation to use. That way, they aren’t able to get a fix to make their symptoms subside.
But, seclusion isn’t the only benefit of detox. These programs also allow addicts to withdraw under the supervision of doctors. The doctors on-staff work to minimize their withdrawal symptoms through a medical detox process. For many addicts, medical detox is the key to getting off drugs without relapsing.
Detox doesn’t have to be expensive. Click here to find out if your insurance provider will cover the cost.
In addition to detoxing, addicts must also rehabilitate. This is where they re-learn how to live a sober life and fight off the urge to relapse in the future.
Luckily, there are a number of good rehab programs in Washington State.
Addicts can rehabilitate on their own if they choose. However, there are several benefits to attending a professional rehab program.
First, it gives the addict access to professional therapists and counselors. They spend several weeks working with these professionals. In therapy, the addict works to understand why they are an addict and what triggers them to use. They also develop techniques for avoiding relapse in the future.
Secondly, it provides them with a support network. They meet with the other patients who are also recovering addicts. They get together for support sessions where they discuss their lives and talk about recovery.
Rehab provides recovering addicts with the type of support and structure that promotes healthy living. It’s an extremely valuable resource for those who want to live a happier, more productive life.
There are a number of different types of rehab. For some people, residential is the best type. For others, IOPS are the best option. Ultimately, it depends on the addict’s specific needs.

Northpoint the Evergreen is located right in Bellevue, just 10-minutes from the Interlake neighborhood.
Alcoholics Anonymous is an 80-year old support group for recovering addicts. It holds free meetings all over the world.
In these meetings, addicts gather to help one another overcome alcohol addiction. They get together, talk about their lives, and listen to each other’s stories. The members of this group don’t judge, as the program is founded on the virtue of compassion. No matter what type of mistakes a person made in their life, AA welcomes and supports them.
This group is based around the Twelve Steps. The Steps are a system designed to help people get sober. Among other things, this system requires that members acknowledge their problem, identify their values, and recognize their mistakes. They apologize to the people they’ve harmed and strive to be better people every day.
Bellevue has a lively AA community. Each day, members gather in the Interlake neighborhood and other areas. If you or a loved one is struggling with alcoholism, it could benefit you to find a meeting.

Narcotics Anonymous is similar to AA. However, this program was developed for addicts who abuse drugs other than alcohol. This includes (but is not limited to): heroin, crystal meth, cocaine, marijuana, and prescription drugs.
Ultimately, the addict’s drug of choice is irrelevant. No matter what they prefer, NA welcomes them. In these meetings, they’ll find the support they need to get sober.
Like AA, NA is based around the Twelve Steps. The addict works through these Steps in the effort to move beyond addiction. Many people find that this program is the most valuable resource they encounter in their recovery journey.
If you or someone you know battles with drug addiction, you may want to check out a meeting. There’s a vibrant NA community in Bellevue that could offer the support you’re looking for.

A lot of people enjoy Twelve Step meetings. In many circles, they’re considered a cornerstone of the recovery process.
However, they don’t work for everybody. Some addicts are skeptical about the spiritual undertones of AA and NA.
This skepticism usually stems from the fact that Anonymous programs ask their members to identify a “higher power”. This higher power is supposed to guide them through their journey. For some people, this sounds too religious. Thus, a lot of non-religious people avoid the Twelve Steps.
Although this is a common misunderstanding about AA and NA, it makes sense. Some people prefer to avoid spiritual talk and that’s alright.
Luckily, there are a number of alternatives to the Twelve Steps.
One of the most popular alternatives is SMART Recovery. This program approaches recovery from a completely scientific, non-spiritual angle. It shares many characteristics with the Steps but avoids all “higher power” discussion. Ultimately, it’s just one more resource that local addicts have at their disposal.

This is a support group designed for addicts’ family members. Because these people are often impacted by their loved one’s addiction, Al-Anon gives them a place where they can go to talk.
In Al-Anon meetings, individuals discuss how the additions of their spouses, parents, children, and siblings affect their lives. They open up about their anger, sadness, guilt, and shame.
The meeting facilitators work to help each person understand that their loved one’s condition is not their fault. For many, it’s a needed and necessary form of support.
